World Missions

Everyone can spread the Gospel to those with whom they come in contact, but missionaries have taken the commandment to "go" to the next level.  The purpose of World Missions is to support all missionaries through a number of activities and services.

World Missions is made up of several ministries, including Sheaves for Christ, Christmas for Christ, Partners in Missions (PIM), Associates in Missions (AIM), and the Missions Hotline.

Sheaves for Christ:  Each year, the POA pushes fund-raising for Sheaves for Christ.  From garage sales and car washes to individual appeals, members of the POA work to raise money for foreign missions.  The fund-raising is organized into clubs based on age.  Contributors are recognized for their efforts, with top contributors in each bracket receiving special recognition. Each August, a Sheaves for Christ concert is held at the POA, with all offering collected during the concert going to foreign missions.

Christmas for Christ:  the home missions counterpart to Sheaves for Christ.

Partners in Missions (PIM):  The first Sunday of each month is designated for PIM pledges–contributions made by church members who have pledged their support on a monthly basis.

Missions Hotline:  This ministry provides a phone line available to missionaries worldwide.  When a missionary calls with an urgent request, the hotline is activated and hundreds of people are notified so they can begin praying for the request.  POA members assist the Missions Hotline ministry by accepting missionary families to pray for on a daily basis and by sending cards and letters to missionaries.

Missions Hotline Bake Sale:  Each month, the Missions Hotline holds a Bake Sale in the lobby of the POA.  Church members bake breads, cookies, pies, and cakes, which are then sold following the Sunday Morning Worship service.  Money from this bake sale helps with missionary building programs and provides supplies to missionaries such as copiers, bicycles, books, and Bibles.

World Missions forms a link between the POA and the mission field, working to support missionaries through financial assistance, encouragement, and prayer.  The POA is committed to helping missionaries as they take the message across our country and around the world.
