Ushers
The usher ministry includes not only the sanctuary ushers, but parking ushers as well. There are more than 90 men included in the usher ministry, with more than 35 men serving at each service. Ushers serve as doorkeepers during all services and special events.
Maintaining order and orchestrating movement during services is important, thus establishing the usher as a "watchman on the wall." The POA usher is considered to be a guardian or protector of God's anointing by being the one who prevents needless human interruptions. It is also the goal of each member of the team to maintain hospitable dignity in responding to the needs of the POA's guests.
Another important responsibility of all ushers is to act as members of a public relations department for Pastor by representing the church as friendly, warm, and inviting to each individual that comes through the doors of the POA.
Ushers seek to impact every guest with love and efficiency by: warmly welcoming each guest with outstretched hand and a smile; seating each guest in a comfortable, accessible seat; providing guests with a copy of the POA Weekly Connection and other available printed material; introducing guests to the person with whom they are seated; and inviting guests to return to the POA
An usher must demonstrate the following qualities:
- a servant attitude
- friendliness with a smile
- compassion and sensitivity
- loyalty to pastor, doctrine, and church
- a love for souls
If you are a visitor to the POA--or part of the POA family--please feel free to ask for assistance from any usher. We would be happy to answer your questions or assist you whenever possible!
