24 hours a day . . . 7 days a week . . . 365 days a year–since 1972 there has been an unbroken chain of prayer at the POA.  Since its inception under the leadership of Bishop G. A. Mangun, 24-Hour Prayer has provided the church and the community with a powerful hedge of protection and power and the reassurance that someone is always on-site, interceding and willing to pray with and for those in need.

Prayer stations and guides emphasizing specific, strategically-targeted areas of prayer enable church members to pray in an environment conducive to spiritual growth.  During the day, shifts are prayed in the Adult and Student prayer rooms.  At night, shifts are confined to the Adult prayer room, which is equipped with security cameras and a locked door for safety purposes.

Each day is broken into eight three-hour shifts.  For those unable to pray the full three hours, shifts may be broken into two shifts of one and one-half hours each or three shifts lasting an hour each.  Starting a 24-Hour Prayer chain requires a minimum of 56 people; providing flexible shift lengths requires more people.

A monthly schedule is posted in the prayer room to familiarize prayer ministry members with the complete program.  Coordinators of the program maintain a database of contact information for participants and send reminders of scheduled shift times.

In addition to 24-Hour Prayer, several groups meet for specialized prayer throughout the week:

Daughters of Zion meet each Tuesday at 9:00 am in the Student Prayer Room to pray for the church, the community, and special needs.

The Hedgemen gather each Sunday morning before service to provide a shield of prayer for the pastor and leaders.

Thursday Night Prayer offers the opportunity for men and women to bind together as they pray for UPCI missionaries.

YMCA Family Prayer is formed by young married couples who meet each Saturday evening at 6:00 pm in the Family Room.

Saturday Night Prayer is held on Saturdays at 7:00 pm in the Main Sanctuary.

Awaken Prayer is Youth Prayer that is held on Sundays at 5:00 pm in the Student Prayer Room (Main Sanctuary Building).

Pre-Service Prayer is on Sundays at 5:30 pm in the Adult Prayer Room.
