Since its inception in 1972 under the leadership of Bishop G. A. Mangun, 24-Hour Prayer has provided the church and the community with a powerful hedge of protection and power and the reassurance that someone is always on-site, interceding and willing to pray with and for those in need.

During the day, shifts are prayed in the Adult and Student Prayer Rooms.  At night, shifts are confined to the Adult Prayer Room, which is equipped with security cameras and a locked door for safety purposes.

Each day is broken into eight three-hour shifts.  For those unable to pray the full three hours, shifts may be broken into two shifts of one and one-half hours each or three shifts lasting an hour each.  Starting a 24-Hour Prayer chain requires a minimum of 56 people; providing flexible shift lengths requires more people.

Coordinators of the program maintain a database of contact information for participants and send reminders of scheduled shift times.

In addition to 24-Hour Prayer, several groups meet for specialized prayer throughout the week.  In addition to these various weekday prayer groups, the POA has a weekly Saturday Night Prayer at 7:00 pm in the Main Sanctuary, Awaken Prayer for youth on Sundays at 5:30 pm in the Student Prayer Room (Main Sanctuary Building), and Pre-Service Prayer on Sundays at 5:30 pm in the Adult Prayer Room.
