Candy Room
The staff in the Candy Room supplies all Sunday School classes and Bus Route students with weekly refreshments. Whether it is a simple snack or special refreshments to celebrate holidays, students always are excited to receive their weekly "treats" from the Candy Room. The two roles of the Candy Room are: (1) to serve First Hour Sunday School and (2) to serve Second Hour Sunday School (Bus Routes).
First Hour Sunday School: Each week, a teacher from each class goes to the Candy Room and collects refreshments, such as punch and cookies for younger classes, or soft drinks and cookies for older classes, for each student present that day.
Second Hour Sunday School, or Soul-Winning Bus Routes: The bus captain or driver from each bus takes a count of kids on the bus for that day. Workers in the Candy Room prepare a treat for each student. The treats are grouped by bus and then picked up by the bus driver or captain at the end of Sunday School.
Special Treats: Several times a year, special refreshments are provided to all students. These occasions are holidays such as Mother's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Other special refreshments for bus students include:
- Pickle Day–the first Sunday of each month is "Pickle Day" for all bus riders. Large pickles are placed in individual pickle bags for each child. This is a favorite treat among the kids.
- Watermelon Day
- Icee Day
The Candy Room is organized to provide refreshments to all classes in an efficient and simple manner. Workers have refreshments ready to be counted out and distributed among all classes and all buses.
For First Hour Sunday School, the Candy Room's treats provide a snack before students attend Morning Worship service in the Main Sanctuary. For Second Hour Sunday School students, the refreshments are an expression of care and provide an added incentive for students to attend Sunday School.
